meetings The Inklings originally began by meeting in Lewis' rooms and continued on in the evenings with readings. Most of the Inklings meetings took place at Magdalen, so it could be considered the most important place to them. People were always walking over to Lewis' rooms and meeting each other. According to Warren Lewis, in his introduction to "Letters of C.S. Lewis", (13) they met Thursday evening after dinner. Many people read at the meetings, including W.H. Lewis with his books on Louis XIV, C.S. Lewis' The Great Divorce, J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and various works of Williams and other Inklings members.
"The Inklings meeting...was very enjoyable. Hugo was there: rather tired-looking, but reasonably noisy.
The chief entertainment was provided by a chapter of Warnie Lewis's book on the times of Louis XIV (very
good I thought it); and some excerpts from C.S.L.'s 'Who Goes Home?' - a book on Hell, which I suggested
should have been called rather 'Hugo's Home'. I did not get back till after midnight."
